There are four types of card abilities in the Final Fantasy TCG.
Abilities that are active as long as the card is on the field. For example, reducing the cost of playing cards or giving Forwards additional power.
Actions that trigger when the player pays the associated cost.
Abilities that trigger when a condition is met. For example, 'When this card enters the field'.
Special abilities are designated by the icon and have their own name. In order to use a special ability, a card of the same name must be discarded (as well as any other costs). This does not need to be the exact same card, but must be the same name.
